Creating a big slab table is one of the most satisfying experiences. The logistics of working with such a monster piece of timber can be pretty heavy work, but worth every bit of labour.
Here is a beautiful Jarrah slab table that we recently built for a client’s Yallingup home. It measures 3900mm x 1200mm and looks stunning in the space.
It is very rare to find a single slab piece of Jarrah of this size that does not have splits and this slab was no exception. As a solution to binding the split we created a butterfly join – inspired by Japanese master craftsmen George Nakashima – that not only respects timeless wood working craftsmanship, but is a really nice feature.
The table is finished with 7 coats of danish oil to nourish and preserve the timber naturally and give it a satin looking finish that is hard wearing.
